The first US banking sector experience tour took place from September 29 to October 8, 2012. This tour was run by RBS and the School of Management, University at Buffalo (hereafter referred to as UB) with support from the leaders, faculty members and alumni of UB.
The School of Management, UB, scheduled 4 lectures on banking. Three professors from the Department of Finance and Managerial Economics and the Department of Accounting and Law and an adjunct professor from HSBC spoke about theories, their research findings and practical experience. They analyzed data collected from the US financial market, real estate market, foreign exchange market and consumer credit market to show students the radical changes in the US financial market and the US socio-economic landscape brought about by the financial crisis. The lectures analyzed the root causes of the crisis.
During the lectures, students discussed with the professors the influence of the US administration’s post-crisis financial policies on the rest of the world, especially the immediate and potential impact on China. This contributed to a better understanding of various sophisticated US financial derivatives.
