On February 18, the signing ceremony of the joint global bachelor collaboration agreement between Renmin University of China (RUC), Luiss Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli (Luiss) and George Washington University (GW) was held online and offline. LIU Wei, President of RUC, DU Peng, Vice President of RUC, Andrea Prencipe, President of Luiss, Raffaele Marchetti, Vice President of Luiss, Mark S. Wrighton, President of GW and Teresa Murphy, Vice President for Academic Affairs of GW attended the ceremony. The three parties signed the Joint Global Bachelor Collaboration Agreement after exchanges and discussions on offering a joint bachelor program in Business Administration (the Program). The ceremony was hosted by Marchetti, Vice President of Luiss.
LIU Wei, President of RUC pointed out that this signing is a milestone. He said that the Program is conducive to integrating domestic and foreign resources in students, teaching, reputation and culture of higher education in China, Europe and North America, and forming a new international cooperation mechanism for personnel training. The outstanding business talents trained by the Program for the global market will be familiar with the economy and culture of Asia, Europe and the United States, and become the bridge of economic interconnection among the three regions in the future.
Andrea Prencipe, President of Luiss, explained the connotation of the ACE, the title of the Program. He said that A represents not only “America”, but also “Awareness”. Students participating in this program can be aware of the challenges they are facing and the complexity of the world. C stands for both China and “Cosmopolitan”, which means that students can not only recognize their own roots, but also be extremely open. E stands for Europe and Entrepreneurship. The program was carried out in three capital cities, enabling students to feel three different cultures. He also pointed out that students are expected to cultivate the inclusiveness when facing the complexity society and independence in their life, and the graduates of the Program will be business leaders with diverse thinking in the future.
Mark S. Wrighton, President of GW, firstly expressed gratitude to the support from RUC and Luiss for the Program. He then said that GW has always been committed to becoming an academic institution with global influence and actively cultivating talents with international vision. And it is of great significance for GW to play its own value, inject new energy and create new opportunities by signing the Program in the special period of global epidemic challenges. At last, He congratulated the students who were about to participate in the Program, and firmly believed that the Program was a strong alliance among three world-renowned universities, which would ultimately benefit the students of the parties.
DU Peng, Vice President of RUC, pointed out that the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games is coming to an end, and Italy will take over the Olympic flame from China and hold the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games. In addition, the China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism will restart in 2022 and this year also remarks the 50th anniversary of President Nixon’s visit to China and the signing of the Joint Communique of the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China. In this critical period, the implementation of the Program is at the right time for the three parties, who will integrate high-quality discipline resources so as to cultivate comprehensive talents with international vision, familiarity with eastern and western cultures and adaptation to the development of the times.
Teresa Murphy, Vice President for Academic Affairs of GW, said that the Program represents the educational philosophy of three parties. As a top university in Business Administration, GW possesses rich teaching and research experience and its graduates perform well in all walks of life.
After the talks, LIU Wei, President of RUC, Andrea Prencipe, President of Luiss and Mark S. Wrighton, President of GW signed the Joint Global Bachelor Collaboration Agreement. YE Kangtao, Dean of Renmin Business School (RMBS), SHI Yan’an, Director of Office of International Affairs, DENG Ziliang, Vice Dean of RMBS and LIN Yuan, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs, attended the signing ceremony.
In order to adapt to the talents demand for the economic development of the society, RUC, Luiss and GW offered this world’s first joint global bachelor program in Business Administration. Luiss ranks among the best universities in Italy and enjoys a high reputation in the fields of business administration, political economy and law. GW has developed many outstanding alumni in politics, business and journalism and it is often called the “Cradle of Politicians” in America. The Program will be 4-year long and its graduate students will be awarded the Bachelor Degree in Business Administration by RUC, the Bachelor Degree in Business Administration by Luiss and the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business/International Business by GW.
