Case Method Seminar Successfully Held

The Case Method Seminar on 14 October 2015, co-organized by RBS and China Center for Social Science Cases, was attended by full RBS faculty members and some from School of Finance, School of Economics, School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, School of Public Administration and Policy, and School of Information Resource Management.

At the seminar, Professor Yi Zhihong, Vise President of RUC and Director of China Center for Social Science Cases, highlighted the significance of case development and teaching, especially the encouragement and investment in interdisciplinary research. She also spoke highly of the pioneering role that RBS plays in this field.

Themed Strategy of Case Teaching, the speech of Professor Mao Jiye, Dean of RBS, stressed the importance and necessity of updating our educational concepts and teaching patterns aligned to the rapidly changing age of Internet from the aspects of truth of education, missions and features of RBS, and the actual needs of students. How can we help to improve students’ capabilities in effective communication and analyzing, problem-solving and decision-making? Is there any brilliant way to achieve this goal and push the conceptual transformation from textbook-stuffing to exploratory challenge? The key lies in case teaching. Professor Mao concluded from the example of Harvard Business School that case study is the best way of management learning. Case teaching is compatible with the goal of exercising students’ capabilities and thinking modes rather than simple lecturing on key points. At last, he set up the goal of above 50% faculty engaging in the case development and above 50% classes benefited from case teaching.
