RBS Led Charity Campaign for Underprivileged Students in Yunnan Province

Time:2015-01-16

In January of the new year, 120 moisture-proof mattress pads were delivered to the underprivileged students of No. 1 Middle School of Lanping County, Yunnan Province, a charity campaign led by RBS’ CPC party branch, which warmed the heart of the students at the school in this severe winter.

Located in the southwest corner of China, Lanping county, one of the country’s national level poverty-stricken areas, sees a long frost period during the winter, with the average temperature dropping below 0℃ and a sharp diurnal temperature range up to 20℃. Over 50% students there come from underprivileged families whose average annual income is less than 2000 yuan. One RBS graduate, Wu Qiuxiang, was once a volunteer teacher at the school who found out that most students lacked warm mattress pads to endure the winter. Upon knowledge of this situation, Wu reported it to the Student and CPC affairs office of RBS.

In response, RBS launched a charity campaign in December 2014 to help students of Lanping No.1 Middle School. With 16,800 yuan donated by RBS’ faculty, staff and students within two weeks, 120 mattress pads were purchased and delivered to Lanping. Though thousands of miles away, the hearts of underprivileged students at Lanping and those of ours at Beijing were connected at that very moment.
