MBA Story: RUC Style in Yale

The decision to become an MBA student means bidding farewell to a 2-year break and switching from a business career to campus life full of pain and joy.. This is the “RUC Style” that is deeply impressed on each MBA student. RUC Style has been rooted in my heart for two years and came with me to my new life at the Yale School of Management. 


With the tense and heavy workload at Yale, language is the first barrier to conquer. In order to keep up with the professors’ lectures, I watched the course related video which I found on the internet until I could catch every sentence. Through such intensive practice, I could basically follow the main content of the course. As I resolved these difficulties and adapted to the course intensity, my efforts turned out great achievements. I received the top grade in my study group for several case assignments.


Similar to the teaching model at RBS, case-based teaching is also one of the bright spots at the Yale School of Management. During class discussion, the exchange of ideas and opinions is most engaging, and students can learn even more after the professor summarizes the case’s key points. Since all cases are taken from real business practice, there is no one answer. By analyzing cases, the core value of the MBA program, students try to duplicate actual business situations so as to appropriate experience that is accumulated over years. They can learn how to think by standing on the giant’s shoulders and make quick and sound decisions by borrowing from past experiences and lessons. 


The Yale School of Management offers various extra-curricular activities. On November 2, I participated in the one-and-a-half-day Yale’s Student Leadership Forum hosted by the Yale Alumni Association. Though the time was short, the forum consisted of activities including alumni speeches, themed discussions, group discussion, management scenario analysis and films.
