2013 International Symposium of Young Scholars on Corporate Finance & Governance

On June 27th 2013, the 2013 International Symposium of Young Scholars on Corporate Finance & Governance hosted by the RBS was successfully held in the Chinese Literature Hall of the RUC. This year’s symposium comprised keynote speeches and parallel sessions. There were three English sessions and two Chinese sessions, reporting ten papers in total. More than 100 experts and scholars from over 20 institutions both at home and abroad attended the annual event.

At 8:30a.m. of June 27th, the moderator Prof. Yan Xuemin, Overseas Co-Director of the Department of Finance, declared the opening of the Symposium after a brief introduction of the participants. Professor Mao Jiye, Associate Dean of the RBS, delivered an opening speech.

Professor Jay Ritter, internationally renowned scholar from the Florida University of the USA, continued to make a keynote speech about Initial Public Offerings. Firstly, he introduced the IPON and IPOR of several countries including France, Singapore, Australia and China and pointed out the ubiquity of IPO underpricing. In addition, he talked about different theoretical explanations of IPO underpricing and analyzed how the shareholders’ interests would be affected by IPO underpricing, thus suggesting what will make a
