The 2014 Mathematical Contest in Modeling took place from Feburary 6th to 10th. RUC's three-member team, two business school students Liu Changxian and Zeng Yizhi and another fellow student from School of Information Song Xiangjia, designed a program including an 20-page long paper and source code of 20 pages long and won the Meritorious Winner prize.
The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) is a multi-day mathematics competition held annually in USA, during the first or second weekend in February, since 1985 by COMAP and sponsored by SIAM, the NSA, and INFORMS. It is distinguished from other major mathematical competitions such as Putnam by its strong focus on research, originality, teamwork, communication and justification of results. Contestants are organized in form of three-person groups and each team is required to research and submit their solutions in the form of a research paper within 96 hours. The competition attracts broad particpantion each year. A total of 6755 teams representing 18 countries competed in this year's competition.
