President Yulu Chen Met with Professor Joseph P.H.Fan from the Chinese University of Hong Kong

In September 2012, Professor Joseph P.H.Fan from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), well-known as the authority on Chinese family business governance, was invited by RBS to stay for one month on sabbatical.


On the morning of Sept.11, Prof. Fan had a meeting with Prof. Yulu Chen, President of Renmin University of China (RUC), accompanied by Prof. Zhihong Yi, Vice President of RUC and Dean of RBS, and Senior Associate Dean Prof. Xin Jing. President Chen welcomed Prof. Fan and expressed his wish that more leading researchers like Prof. Fan could come to RUC for exchange and cooperation. Prof. Fan introduced to President Chen his research interest and main research outcome, and presented the president with his work entitled “Critical Generations – Out of the Succession Dilemma of Chinese Family Businesses”.


Later, Prof. Zhihong,Yi, Prof. Xin Jing and Associate Dean Prof. Jiye Mao discussed with Prof. Fan on preparations to launch the RUC Research Centre for Private Business Governance.
 
Prof. Fan expected the centre to grow into a platform for international academic exchange and knowledge diffusion. He suggested the centre invite both high-caliber academics and young researchers from different research institutions and host academic conferences and forums to boost applied research. Prof. Yi stressed that advances in research should not be scored in isolation. She suggested that research on private family business should focus on business practice. Prof. Fan expected much of the Special Issue on Private Family Business Studies (title to be decided). He hoped that researchers from home and overseas could work together to make the special issue an influential journal that benefits a great many readers.


Prof. Fan is on the faculty of both School of Accountancy and Department of Finance of CUHK. He got PhD in finance at the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. Before joining CUHK in September 2004, he worked at Hong Kong Univers
