Campus Talk for 2013 RUC-Yale Summer Session Program

On March 4, 2013, the Teaching Affairs Office and Hillhouse Academy jointly organized the Campus Talk for the 2013 RUC-Yale Summer Session Program, hosted by Meng Shuang, member of the Hillhouse Elite 2nd Session and the 2012 RUC-Yale Summer Session. Three members of the Yale Session, Guan Xuanyue, Zhou Ziya and Guo Wei, spoke about RUC-Yale Summer Session Program and shared their experiences.

First, Meng Shuang briefly introduced the program, session content and selection procedure. Under the leadership of RUC President Chen Yulu and Yale President Richard C. Levin, the RUC-Yale Summer Session Program was initiated as a summer exchange program between the two universities. The program consists of the ELI English program and YSS Summer Session course. The fees for the exchange program in America are covered by a donation from Zhang Lei, graduate of RUC and Yale, Chairman and CEO of Hillhouse Capital, president of Hillhouse Academy. The application and selection procedure for the 2013 RUC-Yale Summer Session Program including the on-line registration, preliminary selection, written test and interview was completed around March 3, 2013. The selection process mainly assesses the candidates’ learning capacity, English proficiency and problem analysis and solution skills.

Guan Xuanyue spoke about studying and living at Yale University which further stimulated the audience’s interest in Yale and the program. Zhou Ziya spoke about the advantage of the YSS program in applying for overseas universities and how to make full use of the resources of the Yale Summer Session. She pointed out that Yale Summer Session members can select elective courses or courses closely related to their majors. She also suggested that those who want to study abroad should keep in close contact with the Admission Office or the professor con
