“The Key Role of Accountants in the World Capital Market of Hong Kong”
In the evening of November 7, the MPAcc series lecture “Face-to-face with Top Companies” was held in Room 602 of the Mingde Building of RBS. Mr. Wang Xifeng, a guest professor of RBS’ MPAcc program, chief executive director of HKICPA (Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and a member of AICPA (American Association of Public Accountants) spoke on the topic of “The Key Role of Accountants in the World Capital Market of Hong Kong”.
Mr. Wang spoke first about Hong Kong’s status as a world financial center supported with a large amount of data and about his life in Hong Kong and career experience in Deloitte China. Next, Mr. Wang covered the history of the international accountant industry moving from the “Big Eight” professional service firms to the "Big Four" firms and introduced the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Finally, Mr. Wang explained in detail about HKICPA’s Qualification Program (QP) and to the reasons to join the QP. QP aims to help an accounting graduate develop the professional skills and competence required to become a certified public accountant. Those who complete QP courses are exempt from four of the entrance examinations for becoming a Chinese Certified Public Accountant and can apply for membership in accountant organizations in the major financial markets across the world.
Mr. Wang followed the lecture with a question-and-answer period with the students. The lecture not only broadened the audience’s knowledge with deeper understanding of QP and the development of the world’s accountant services, but also inspired them to strive to be outstanding accountants.
