ZHENG Lingling From RMBS Won the 2021 Excellent Young Scientists Fund Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China

ZHENG Lingling, Associate Professor from Finance Department of Renmin Business School (RMBS), won the Excellent Young Scientists Fund supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) in 2021. The applied research topic mainly focuses on Big Data and Machine Learning to solve the problems faced in the traditional financial research and expands the application of Machine Learning in financial practice. Machine Learning possesses the flexibility that traditional measurement methods do not have, which can help us better understand the complex generation process of financial data in reality. In addition, the research will expand its application in different scenarios, provide theoretical guidance for financial institutions, and also shed light on FinTech innovation.

ZHENG Lingling graduated from Imperial College London in 2014, and joined the RMBS in the same year. She has been engaged in asset pricing research for many years, mainly including market anomalies, short selling, institutional investors and so on. The research results have been published in international top journals of finance and management (including Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Management Science, etc.), and she won many academic awards such as Outstanding Achievement Award of Humanities and Social Sciences supported by the Ministry of Education.

Guided by the strategy of “as the expert in Chinese Management”, RMBS identified “digital transformation and organizational restructuring” as its research focus on discipline in 2019. And it sets up digital transformation research funds, establishes case development projects and encourages teachers to publish monographs in this direction. 

Based on that, RMBS strives to cultivate state-level government sponsored topics, develop a large number of excellent teaching cases of digital transformation, promote teaching innovations in financial technology and intelligent accounting, explore cooperation with digital leading enterprises so as to develop courses and jointly build laboratories. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, RMBS will firmly take root in China’s digital economy, rely closely on the practice of booming enterprises, actively transform the discipline development, and contribute to becoming a world-class business school as the expert in Chinese management.
