Professor Colin Mayer from Said Business School, the University of Oxford delivers speech at RBS Lecture

On March 27, 2013, Prof. Colin Mayer, former President of Said Business School, University of Oxford, delivered a speech titled Governance Innovation in Post Crisis Period at the RBS Lecture Room. Anchored by Associate Professor Zhu Chunling from Department of General Management, the lecture was attended by Vice President of RUC and RBS Dean Prof. Yi Zhihong, Director of RUC Press Co., Ltd., PhD Li Yongqiang and Associate Professor Huang Jiangming, RBS Associate Dean.

VicePresident Yi Zhihong extended warm welcome to Prof. Colin Mayer and sincere gratitude for sharing the his cutting edge achievements with the faculty and students .Prof. Yi made a brief introduction about Prof. Colin Mayer and his new book Firm Commitment: Why the Corporation Is Failing Us and How to Restore Trust in It. Prof. Yi pointed out that corporation rule, has been a hot topic since it was firstly brought up and has received increasing attention after the financial crisis. She said “Although many people hold that the British corporation governance system should be seen as a model, recent analysis on the British financial system has shown its serious weaknesses. As for China, we have to be cautious of new forms of ownership and replacement of state-ownership. Chinese corporations must avoid short-sightedness and plan their strategic development for the long run.” She also stressed that “Chinese corporations should continue to place emphasis upon both the development of themselves and public interests. Governments should transform the roles in corporate development and in the meanwhile seek other ways to provide public services.”.
