The 5th International Conference on Operations and Supply Chain Management, ICOSCM 2011 Held in RUC

The 5th International Conference on Operations and Supply Chain Management, ICOSCM 2011 was held in RUC on July 17-19, 2011. With the theme of “Service Supply Chain Management”, the event was attended by over 100 famous scholars in the field of operations and supply chain management from America, Britain, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Prof. Chris Voss from London Business School gave a keynote speech on “Innovation in Services - A Key to the Future”, in which he elaborated new research fields of service innovation and the coverage, process, organizing and tools of innovation.

Prof. Vicki Smith-Daniels from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University gave a speech entitled “Moving Forward and Making a Difference: Research Priorities for Service-Dominated Supply Chains”, in which she introduced the various types of enterprise service supply chain management, and stressed the research on the role of new knowledge in the development of Chinese and American economy based on the ten research topics of service supply chain management proposed by Ostrom et al (2010).

Prof. Hua Zhongsheng, Vice-Dean of the Management School of the University of Science and Technology of China, gave a speech on “Competition of Health Care Providers: Public Hospitals vs. Private Hospitals”, analyzing the situation and benefits of duopoly competition between free-service public hospitals and fee-for-service private hospitals.
