On November 3, Mr. James Brendan Bolger, the former New Zealand Prime Minister & Chancellor of University Waikato, delivered a lecture titled “New Zealand and China Relations” at No. 2 Lecture Hall of Run-Run-Shaw Conference Center. Hosted by RBS, the lecture attracted around 200 local and international students.
In his speech, Mr. Bloger gave an insight into the similarities and differences of China and New Zealand in economic and cultural development, speaking highly of the bilateral exchanges and cooperation He then moved on to share his view on four critical issues at the moment—demography, environmental protection, water resources and energy. Prof. Mao Jiye, Associate Dean of RBS who chaired the lecture, expressed sincere thanks in his conclusion remarks, saying that “Mr. Bloger’s speech has opened a window for the audience, helping them learn more about New Zealand and her culture”. In the Q&A session, students raised questions in relation to New Zealand’s culture, politics, migration policy, education and agriculture among others. Mr. Bloger was also asked to share his personal experience of identifying career pursuit.
After the lecture, Mr. Bloger had a free talk with the international students about their study and life in China. He also invited RUC students to visit New Zealand for travel or study some day in the future.
