Arnoud De Meyer: Management of Innovation from an Asian Perspective

As the 5th annual meeting of RBS International Advisory Committee approaches, the School invites one of the IAC member, Prof. Arnoud De Meyer, to deliver a speech titled Management of Innovation from an Asian Perspective, an opportunity for its students to expose to expertise and brilliance of world-class scholars.


The event was kicked off by a welcome remark by RBS Dean Prof. Mao Jiye, saying that the establishment of RBS' International Advisory Committee not only represents a self-motivation mechanism for the School's development but also offers opportunities for our students to experience the most cutting-edge knowledge of management world, absorb wisdom and ideas from masters, and construct their own knowledge structure.


In his speech, Prof. De Meyer stated that economist have conducted empricial studies to prove that in the U.S and OECD countries investment in research and development is instrumental in productivity improvement which drives economic growth. Input to R&D and management of innovation are of paramout importance for Asian countries to steer clear of the "Middle Income Trap". "Given the fact that the absorption and transformation of scientifc research findings in developed countries still exceed those in developing countries, how do we enhance the capability to innovate?" he posed a question followed by eight key points of innovation, namely voice of your clients, clear vision and communication, adventuruous spirit, imagination and creativity,integrated methods, exceptional execution, knowledge management skill and innovation achievement preservation. From an Asian perspective, Prof. De Meyer pointed out that Asian organizations' management of innovation requires three structural changes and the abilities to manage intangible assests, conduct marketing research and design marketing strategies.
