ABSTRACT:

Value Propositions , as a critical component in both personal value system and wider institutional orders, is relatively underexamined in corporate social responsibilities (CSR). drawing on perspectives from institutional complexity and weber’s classical thinking, we propose a research framework that firms with vp executives are embedded in the tension of religion, market, and state logic, thus shaping their conflicting interpretation of external institutional pressures and variation in practicing CSR. based on a longitudinal survey of Chinese firms, we find that vp executives perceive lower normative pressure shaped by industry peers but higher coercive pressure shaped by local government. furthermore, we find that both hub position and regional marketization mitigates the negative effect of Value Propositions on normative pressure and the positive effect of executives’ Value Propositions on coercive pressure.
