The Annual Meeting of the RMBS MBA Advisory Committee

On Oct. 13, 2018, Renmin Business School held its annual MBA Advisory Committee meeting. A number of academics and c-suite members attended the meeting, which centered on “finance empowered by technologies and growth driven by innovation” and aimed to facilitate sustained development of financial management and continued innovation of technologies and services specific to the financial sector.

Dean MAO Jiye delivered welcome remarks at the opening session. He stressed the importance of close connections with the business community to share best management practice with students through case-based teaching, and hoped that the school’s MBA program will be ranked among the top 30 globally by 2025.

Associate Dean SONG Hua introduced to the committee members the background and key facts of the school’s MBA program. Renmin Business School was the first business school in China authorized by the Ministry of Education in 1990 to run MBA program. As a pioneer in management education, the program is known for continuous improvement and innovative curriculum design. It is ranked by the Financial Times as No.1 globally for the percentage of alumni who moved to finance and for the percentage of alumni who work in the finance sector.

Prof. Song told the committee members that the MBA program fosters integrative leadership skills with emphasis on four “I”s, namely, Integrative, Interdisciplinary, Interconnection, and Innovation. He also explained the dimensions of the program’s “MBA+” strategy.

Prof. YI Zhihong, Director of the school’s Fin-Tech MBA Program and former Vice President of Renmin University of China, gave a work report on the program. Launched in 2015, the program is designed to help students better understand internet-based finance and business operation and management in the digital age. The curriculum is composed of core courses, and fundamental courses on finance, data analysis, and Internet finance. Students also have access to guest lectures, company visits, and international study tours. In the future, the program will work more closely with the business community, promote case-based teaching, and develop 3-5 courses on fin-tech based on in-depth research on the latest trends of digital economy and fin-tech.

Dean MAO Jiye, Senior Associate Dean HUANG Jiangming, and Fin-Tech Program Director YI Zhihong granted certificates to the members of the MBA Advisory Committee. After that, Dean Mao, on behalf of the school, signed partnership agreements with AVIC Trust Co., Ltd., SCC Finance, Comix Group, Shenzhen SJET Supply Chain Co., Ltd., and Bubi.CN.

Two sub-forums were held afterwards, and the topics were “The Future of Traditional Finance” and “The Integration of Finance and Technologies” respectively. 

The first sub-forum was chaired by Prof. YI Zhihong. YAO Jiangtao, Chairman, and YUAN Tian, Director of R&D and Product Innovation Division from AVIC Trust Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech on “The Future of Traditional Finance” and reviewed the trust industry in China. A few senior executives of the banking sector went up stage and shared their insights, including YU Meng, Vice Chairman of the Council of AVIC Trust Co., Ltd., SHI Chujiang, General Manager of the Bank of Jiangsu Transaction Banking Sector, XU Jie, Deputy General Manager of the Bank of Jiangsu Transaction Banking Sector, YIN Ling, Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Global Transaction Banking Sector, and LI Xinbin, Deputy General Manager of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Finance Division.

The second sub-forum was chaired by ZHI Xiaoqiang, professor of finance at Renmin Business School.  ZHAO Wei, General Manager of CAINIAO Supply Chain Finance delivered a keynote speech on “New Economy-New Retail Empowered by Supply Chain Finance”, in which he explained the strategy of CAINIAO as “a major component of intelligent logistics solutions under the Alibaba Group”. After that, several senior executives had discussions about the transition of tech companies’ financial services, the relationship between traditional finance and technologies, and most recent technological innovations. They were ZHANG Houqi, Chairman and CEO of AUTOZI.COM, YAO Naisheng, Vice President of JD Finance, LI Zhenhua, Executive Director of Ant Financial Research Institute, ZHU Min, CEO and co-founder of WUSHU (Shanghai) Tech Co., Ltd., and ZHAO Wei, General Manager of CAINIAO Supply Chain Finance.
