On March 21, 2010, over 20 students from University of Waikato, New Zealand led by Prof. Weymes Ed, Vice-president and Vice-director of Waikato Management School, made a 5-day visit at the RBS.
RBS arranged varied programs for their short trip. Prof. Ed introduced the difference between western and eastern cultures and highlighted New Zealand’s challenges and rapid development and increasing profile of major Asian countries, especially China and India.
The EMBA students had a meeting with officials of New Zealand Embassy in China on the morning of March 23 and discussed present situations and development of cooperation between China and New Zealand. During the Dragon Seal Wine Culture visit in the afternoon, they exchanged opinions about import of wine technology to China and future development of the wine industry. Later, Associate Professor Dong Zhiyong from the School of Economics, PKU discussed with students about economic changes during the 30 years of reform and opening-up and introduced China’s economic system and development. Associate Professor Feng Yunxia from RBS introduced the cross-cultural communication as well as the cultural factors of strategies adopted in business. Professor Luo Jiade from Tsinghua University had a discussion on “relationship” with students and interpreted the cultural background and the role of relationship in business environment.
The EMBA students from University of Waikato, New Zealand enjoyed this short trip and learned a lot about China’s culture and enterprises. They said this experience would benefit their future cooperation with Chinese partners and their access to the Chinese market.
