The first information session for theRBS-MBS Global MBA Program took place at Mingde Business Building in theevening of November 30, 2016. Sherry Fu, the China Center Director of TheUniversity of Manchester, along with Jiyao Xun, the Associate Director, werethe guest speakers of the event. Professor Yu Zhou, the MBA Director at RBS, openedthe event by giving students a brief overview of Manchester’s rich history. He greatlypraised their long history of 192 years with 25 Nobel Prize winners (3 inEconomics) and 6 global centers around the world.
Ms. Fu introduced Manchester as the largestcampus-based university in the UK. Even President Xi Jinping visited UoM lastOctober, one of the only 2 schools he stopped by. The Global MBA program isranked by the Financial Times in 2016 as 35th globally, 14thin Europe, and 7th in the UK. Ms. Fu also introduced Manchester’sstrong presence in China with over 3,000 alumni in Beijing alone. The ChinaCenter students have an average age of 34 and an average work experience of 11years. They come from different backgrounds and renowned companies, such as HuaWei, Volkswagen, Sony, IKEA, Omega, Siemens, BP, etc.
Next, Ms. Fu expressed excitement over theRBS-MBS partnership; the dual degree program is expected to commence in July of2017 (2 years total; part-time). RBS MBA students can apply now through the MBAProgram Center and complete a Manchester Admission Test (online); decisions areusually notified within 2 weeks. Accepted RBS MBA students will only have topay half of the Global MBA tuition (please consult MBA Program Center for exactamount). The tuition will also cover some expenses of the global component ofthe program. Ms. Fu then welcomed Dr. Xun to explain the academic structure of the dual degree program.
Dr. Xun shared that the flexible program will have 36 days of face-to-face classes with 1 extra day for the induction ceremony. The rest of the program will be completed through an online lecture/study format. Student-formed study groups will allow everyone to meetup and work together despite the online format. The highlight of the program is that students can choose to study at any of their 6 centers for a week (7including Manchester’s main campus itself): Washington, US; UK; Dubai;Singapore; Shanghai; Hong Kong; and Brazil. The information session concluded with a lively Q&A session. RBS thanked Ms. Fu and Dr. Xun for delivering a wonderful information session.
