Professor Joseph P.H. Fan, a joint professor at the School of Accountancy and Department of Finance at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), paid a visit to Renmin Business School (RBS) on December 21. Prof. Fan also serves as the Director of the Institute of Economic and Finance, CUHK.
During the visit, in-depth discussions concerning the establishment of an academic and application research platform had been carried on among Prof. Fan, Yi Zhihong, Dean of RBS, Prof. Li Yan, head of Department of Finance, Prof. Wang Huacheng from Department of Finance and Prof. Zhang Kai, head of Department of Organization and Human Resources. Prof. Fan pointed out that the quality of publications produced by Chinese young researchers has not reached the international level yet. Faculty members, therefore, have to combine the theoretical research with real case studies during course delivery.
Dean of RBS Prof. Yi Zhihong addressed that the Case Center at RBS has been promoting the case-based approach to discover problems in practice, which had greatly improved the quality of our publications. Professors from the two departments also aired their opinions during the discussions. Prof. Fan held a seminar on the integration of research and teaching attended by Liu Xiangdong and Song Hua, Associate Deans of RBS, Associate Professor Liu Dongming, and Associate Professor Feng Yunxia. Issues relating to course content were as well discussed with faculties from Department of Accounting and Department of Finance at the seminar.
On the same day, Prof. Fan gave a lecture entitled Research on Family Enterprise to faculties and doctoral students of RBS during which, Prof. Fan expounded upon his academic viewpoints, in respect of the origin and definition of family enterprises and the application of analysis framework in private enterprise management.
